Hello Friends,

It has been a very interesting start to the year with all the excitement around the presidential debates.  I have been busy working on my new album and getting ready for the upcoming festival tour dates.  I wanted to thank all of you for the support you’ve given me over the past year.  I’ve received a lot of great feedback for my latest video “Save Me.”  Thanks to fans and friends like you spreading the word, there are over 340,000 video views.  That is amazing.

I am so encouraged that the environment and how it affects our health is becoming an important topic to all of us.  Recently I came across an article that touches this issue.  I grew up around petrol plants and have battled mercury poisoning and other toxicities since it was discovered.  If left untreated these toxins can cause diseases like Multiple Sclerosis, Parkinsons, and Alzheimers.  It is upsetting to learn that even our precious parks and waters are being affected by airborne toxicities and other chemical wastes.  You can read the full article @ (View USA Today here).  Unfortunately there is no safe haven to industrialization.

Again, I want to thank you for your support and hope that whoever is elected will take action to help reverse the environmental damage that ultimately affects the quality of our lives.

All the best,
Tracy

Dear Friends,

Last Friday, the U.S. Senate passed historic energy legislation in an 86-8 vote that will go a long way toward addressing the triple-threat of energy security, climate change and environmentally-related health issues that America and the rest of the world is facing. You can read more about it in the Washington Post article posted HERE.

While there is still much to be done – including President Bush’s signature on the legislation – I am so encouraged by the amount of political attention being paid to making the tough choices needed to heal our fragile planet. I hope you’ll join me in continuing the fight to create a sustainable world…your voice really counts.

Thanks for much for supporting my music and my effort to be one small voice among many working to protect our future.

Love, Peace and Happy Holidays!
All the best, Tracy

The Senate passed an energy bill with overwhelming bipartisan support last night but only after a Republican filibuster threat forced Democratic leaders to ditch the bill’s tax package, which would have extended tax breaks for wind and solar projects while reducing breaks for the biggest oil and gas companies.

The revised bill, approved by a 86 to 8 vote, would boost fuel efficiency standards for new automobile fleets to 35 miles a gallon by 2020, increase energy efficiency standards for appliances and buildings, and set a mandate for the vastly expanded use of ethanol and other biofuels.

The measure will go back to the House and, if approved, to President Bush, who said last night that he would sign it.

Power plants are focus of drive to cut mercury

Despite decades of government attempts to regulate it, ban it and erase it from household use, the poisonous metal mercury remains a threat to the environment and public health, especially to children and to women of childbearing age.

As many as 600,000 babies may be born in the USA each year with irreversible brain damage because pregnant mothers ate mercury-contaminated fish, the Environmental Protection Agency says. Medical researchers are just beginning to explore such mercury exposure in adults, which can leave some people struggling through life in a disorienting “fish fog.” Nationwide, more than 8,000 lakes, rivers and bays are compromised by mercury’s toxic effects.
